Bright Moments with the Redwood Jazz Alliance Fridays from 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. on KHSU and KHSR (90.5 Arcata | 91.9 Crescent City/Brookings)
We're proud to round out KHSU's great weeknight lineup of
straight-ahead, bop, and post-bop (Mughouse Jazz with Tom Cairns, Mondays 8 to 10 and Gone Sides with Darius Brotman, Tuesdays 8 to 10),
early jazz/pop/vocal & novelty tunes (Classic Jazz Variety with Barry Thorpe, Wednesdays 8 to 10), and
jazz-funk/instrumental funk/groove music (Funky Junction [formerly Giant Steps] with Bud Culbertson, Thursdays 8 to 10)
with our own blend of contemporary Jazz, Improvised, and Modern Creative music.
Michael, Dan, and Michael rotate host duties for two hours each Friday night, in the space formerly occupied by our good friend Chas Lewis, who's moved his venerable "South Side" further south, to KHUM. The name of our show comes from the late, great, multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk, whose habitual benediction to his audiences was: "Bright Moments."
Playlists One day, in the far distant future, we'll get around to posting playlists in HTML format, with hyperlinks to resources on the artists and good places to buy the discs we've spun. KHSU itself has recently begun doing this, via an outfit called "Spinitron," and you can find Bright Moments Spinitron playlists here. (Playlists from the pre-Spinitron era are in Microsoft Word format, below.) And you can always e-mail us with questions about something we've played.
